Shamrock Shuffle 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run Registration Now Open

Event Scheduled For March 16 At Eureka Trail

ATHENS, TENNESSEE – February 26, 2019 – Registration is now open for the Shamrock Shuffle 5K and One-Mile Fun Run, which will be hosted by Athens Parks and Recreation in partnership with Starr Regional Medical Center at the Eureka Trail on Saturday, March 16. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be chip-timed.

Registration for the 5K will be $25 for a single registration and $55 for a family of 2 to 4 (immediate family only). There will also be a One-Mile Fun Run to begin after the 5K; Fun Run registration is $20 for individuals and $55 for a family of 2 to 4. Registration will be taken on the day of the race with a $5 increase in each category. Those who register by March 7 will be guaranteed a commemorative shirt.

This race is a fundraiser to purchase and install solar safety lights along the Eureka Trail, located at 1400 E. Madison Avenue, Athens. Anyone wishing to make a donation to the Eureka Trail light fund may donate that day or come by the recreation office.

Medals will be given to the top runners in each age group and for best shamrock attire. Age categories are 10 and under, 11-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and older.

“The greater reward is the health benefits running provides. Running has been shown to bolster cardiovascular health, strengthen joints, burn calories, and keep your mind sharpened,” said Athens Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator Brianna Hanson. “Making our community healthier is a primary focus for both Athens Parks and Recreation and Starr Regional Medical Center, so we’re pleased to be able to partner in providing this opportunity for families to participate together in a healthy activity.”

Post-race snacks will be provided by Starr Regional Medical Center and Dunkin’ Donuts. McDonald’s of Athens would also like to thank the participants of the second Shamrock Shuffle by giving out coupons for an “End of the Run” refresher — a free medium Shamrock Shake — valid only at the Athens McDonald’s location at the corner of Decatur Pike and Congress Parkway.
